Dositheus II

Patriarch of JerusalemAlso: Dositheos of Jerusalem, Dositheus Notaras

The patriarch of Jerusalem who presided over the Synod of Jerusalem in 1672. The confession issued in his name answers, decree by decree, the Reformed confession attributed to Cyril Lucaris.

The acts of 1672 are headed as those of the synod held “under Dositheus, Patriarch of Jerusalem”, and the preamble explains that the bishops had met for the dedication of the church of the Nativity at Bethlehem (Synod of Jerusalem, Acts heading, p. 3, and preamble, pp. 6–7). The confession opens in his name, “Dositheus, by the mercy of God, Patriarch of Jerusalem”, and he signs first, declaring it to be the faith of the Eastern church (Confession of Dositheus heading, p. 110, and subscription, p. 174). See the Synod of Jerusalem and the Confession of Dositheus.
