Noah
In Genesis, the righteous man whom God saves from the flood with his family and the animals, and with whom God makes a covenant never again to destroy the earth by water.
Noah is the son of Lamech, the tenth name in the line that Genesis traces from Adam (Genesis 5:3–29). Genesis calls him righteous and blameless among the people of his time (Genesis 6:9). He builds the ark as God commands and is six hundred years old when the Flood and the Covenant with Noah comes (Genesis 6:22) (Genesis 7:6). Afterwards God makes a covenant with him and with every living creature (Genesis 9:8–11). His sons Shem, Ham and Japheth are presented as the ancestors of all the nations (Genesis 9:18–19) (Genesis 10:32). Genesis gives his age at death as 950 years (Genesis 9:28–29).
Ezekiel names Noah with Daniel and Job as a model of righteousness (Ezekiel 14:14). In the New Testament he appears in Luke’s genealogy of Jesus (Luke 3:36), as an example of faith (Hebrews 11:7) and as “a preacher of righteousness” (2 Peter 2:5).
