Dordrecht
City in the province of Holland, called Dort in English. The national synod of the Dutch Reformed churches met here in 1618 and 1619 and issued the Canons of Dort.
Dordrecht lies in the south of the province of Holland. The States General of the United Netherlands called the national synod to meet in the city, and the Canons are headed as those of the synod “held at Dordrecht” in 1618 and 1619 (Canons of Dort title and preface). The English chaplain John Hales dated his reports of the sessions from “Dort” (Hales, Letters from the Synod of Dort, Works 3, p. 124). See the Synod of Dort.
