City in the Andes of north-western Colombia. The conclusions of the second general conference of the Latin American bishops, in 1968, are known by its name.

Medellín lies in a valley of the Colombian Andes. The Catholic bishops of Latin America published the conclusions of their second general conference as the final documents of Medellín, sixteen texts that set out to apply the Second Vatican Council to their continent (Medellín Documents (1968), title and Introduction 8).     Medellín and Liberation Theology

    In 1968 the Catholic bishops of Latin America apply the Second Vatican Council to a continent of mass poverty and speak of liberation. Gustavo Gutiérrez builds a theology on that word, and Rome answers with a warning in 1984 and a positive statement in 1986.
