Serampore
Town on the Hooghly river in Bengal where William Carey and his fellow Baptist missionaries settled, ran their press and in 1805 agreed on the principles of their mission.
The Baptist missionaries dated their Form of Agreement from a meeting at Serampore on 7 October 1805, and in it look back to the resolution against private trade that they made when they first united there; the agreement was printed at their own press in the town (Serampore Form of Agreement (1805), title and closing articles, pp. 441, 450). See William Carey and the Modern Missionary Movement.
