Swarthmoor Hall
The house of Judge Fell and Margaret Fell near Ulverston in the north-west of England. George Fox came there in 1652, and a meeting of Friends was kept in the house for some forty years.
Swarthmoor Hall stands just outside Ulverston. George Fox writes that he came “to Swarthmore to Judge Fell’s” in 1652, that Margaret Fell and her household were convinced there, and that the judge allowed a meeting to be kept in his house, which continued until 1690, when a meeting-house was built nearby (Fox, Journal ch. 6). See George Fox and the Quakers.
