The commission conducts the official doctrinal dialogue between the Anglican Communion and the Orthodox churches; its first agreed statement was made at Moscow in 1976. In July 1978, after some Anglican churches had ordained women as priests, it held a special meeting at Moni Pendeli, near Athens, given mainly to that question. Its report sets out the two positions separately.

Section III, “The Orthodox position on the ordination of women to the Priesthood”, was affirmed unanimously by the Orthodox members. It names ministries that women exercise in the Orthodox Church, says that they cannot be admitted to the priesthood, and calls such ordination an innovation without basis in Holy Tradition. Section IV gives the Anglican positions, for and against. The report is cited here as a statement made by an official Orthodox delegation in its own name.
