The address of Benedict XV to the cardinals in the consistory of 6 December 1915, in which he speaks of the war and of the ruin hanging over Armenia.
The pope spoke to the cardinals assembled in secret consistory sixteen months after the war began. He says that he has used every means to hasten peace, that the war still rages by land and sea, and that utter ruin hangs over “wretched Armenia”. It is a public statement by the pope made while the deportations were going on. It is cited in the Destruction of the Armenian and Assyrian Christians.
