Message to Mar Dinkha IV, Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East
A letter of congratulation from Pope Benedict XVI to Mar Dinkha IV on the fiftieth anniversary of his consecration as a bishop. It recalls the declaration of 1994 and speaks of full communion as a goal still to be reached.
The message marks the golden jubilee of the patriarch’s episcopal consecration. In its second paragraph the pope recalls Mar Dinkha’s visit to Rome in 1994 to sign the Common Declaration on Christology, the joint commission for theological dialogue that followed it, and his visit to Rome in June 2007. He repeats his hope that the commission’s work will continue toward the re-establishment of full communion.
It is cited for those facts about the patriarch, and as evidence that eighteen years after the declaration both sides still spoke of communion as something to be restored. See Ancient Christological Divisions Are Addressed.
