Reports of the British and Foreign Bible Society
The Society’s annual reports to its members, beginning with that of May 1805, prefaced by its laws. They state its object and constitution and record year by year what Scriptures it printed, in which languages, and for whom.
Each report was read by the president at the annual meeting and printed by order of the meeting with a list of officers, accounts and letters from correspondents at home and abroad. The laws printed at the front of the volume are the Society’s constitution: its single object, its rule of circulating the Scriptures without note or comment, and the balance of Anglicans, other denominations and foreigners on its committee.
The reports are the Society’s own account of its work, written for its subscribers. They are cited in the British and Foreign Bible Society for its rules and for what it reported doing in its first year.
