Confession of Faith Ratification Act 1690
The act of the Scottish Parliament of 1690 that ratified the Westminster Confession as the public confession of the Church of Scotland and re-established presbyterian church government.
The act’s own title is “Act Ratifying the Confession of Faith and settleing Presbyterian Church Government”. The king, queen and estates declare that they ratify and establish the confession read in their presence “as the publick and avowed Confession of this Church”, containing the sum and substance of the doctrine of the Reformed churches, and that they confirm the government of the church by kirk sessions, presbyteries, provincial synods and general assemblies. The text of the Confession follows the act; it is that of the Westminster Assembly, beginning with the chapter on Holy Scripture.
It is cited in the Westminster Confession for the legal standing the Confession received in Scotland.
