Unlike the councils of Nicaea and Constantinople, Chalcedon left full minutes. Imperial officials presided, notaries recorded what was said, and the record survives in Greek and in Latin. The acts include the documents read out in the sessions, among them the minutes of the council of Ephesus of 449 which Chalcedon overturned, so that much of what is known of that earlier meeting comes from here.

The council’s statement of faith is cited in this wiki under its own record, the Definition of Chalcedon. This record covers the sessions and the canons. The canons were passed near the end; the one numbered 28, on the rank of the see of Constantinople, was voted when the Roman legates were absent, and the last session records their objection. Percival’s translation is a selection. A reader who wants everything said in a session needs a complete modern translation.
