The page gives the secular name of Bartholomew I, Dimitrios Archontonis, his birth at Agioi Theodoroi on the island of Imbros on 29 February 1940, his ordination as deacon in 1961 and priest in 1969, his election as metropolitan of Philadelphia in 1973 and of Chalcedon in 1990, and his unanimous election as Ecumenical Patriarch on 22 October 1991.
