Chronicle
Ekkehard of Aurac. 1105–1125
A universal chronicle continued to 1125 by a Bavarian monk, abbot of Aura. For the reign of Henry V it is a contemporary narrative, and it copies the two charters of the Concordat of Worms with their date.
Ekkehard was a monk who became abbot of Aura on the Franconian Saale. For the years after 1100 his chronicle is written close to the events, and it ends in 1125.
For 1122 he describes the assembly at Worms, gives the text of both charters and their date, and tells how they were read out in a field by the Rhine. He writes as a churchman glad to see the schism ended. His wording of the papal charter has the bishop receive the regalia “by the sceptre”.
