The Ethiopian Synaxarium
The book of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church that gives, for every day of the year, short lives of the saints commemorated on it. On 12 Sanê it commemorates King Lalibela as a saint and builder of churches.
The Synaxarium (in Ge’ez, Mäṣḥafä Sənkəssar) is the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church’s book of the saints of each day. Budge translated it from two manuscripts in the British Museum. No date for the compilation is given here.
Its notice of Lalibela is short. It is cited here as the church’s own liturgical statement of who he was: a king, a saint and a seer, who built ten churches as an angel had shown him.
