The title page of the printed edition ascribes the collection to Thomas Netter of Walden. It gathers the charges, condemnations and recantations in the campaign against John Wycliffe and the Lollards, linked by a narrative written against them.

For Wycliffe and the First English Bible it supplies the setting of the condemnation of 1382: Archbishop William of Canterbury called his bishops and doctors of theology and law to the house of the Friars Preachers in London, and an earthquake shook England that afternoon.
