The list names the consuls of each year and adds, here and there, a line on an event of that year: the birth and death of Christ, the deaths of martyrs, wars and the accessions of emperors. Its editor, Theodor Mommsen, printed it with other lists of the same family under the title Consularia Italica. The copy he called the first recension runs without a break to AD 403 and then from 455 to 493, in a manuscript now at Vienna that also contains the Chronograph of 354.
It is a late compilation and does not say where its notes came from. For the third century it has a few Christian entries. Under Plautianus and Geta, the consuls of AD 203, it reads his cons. passae sunt Perpetua et Felicitas nonas Martias: “under these consuls Perpetua and Felicity suffered, on the Nones of March”. Under Tuscus and Bassus, AD 258, it enters the death of Cyprian at Carthage on 14 September. Mommsen judged that Prosper of Aquitaine took his notice of Perpetua from a list of this kind; Prosper adds that she died at Carthage (Chronicle 757).
