Joint Declaration of Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia
The declaration signed at Havana airport by Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill at what the text calls the first meeting in history between a pope and a patriarch of Moscow.
Francis and Kirill of Moscow met at José Martí airport in Havana on 12 February 2016 and signed a declaration of thirty paragraphs. It speaks of the persecution of Christians in the Middle East, of the family and of Europe, and in paragraphs 25 to 27 of Ukraine: it says that “uniatism” is not the way to restore unity while the Eastern Catholic communities have the right to exist, deplores the hostilities in Ukraine, and hopes that the schism among the Orthodox there may be overcome “through existing canonical norms”.
It is a joint text, agreed by both sides, and is cited in this wiki as evidence of the positions they were willing to state together.
