The Chronicle of the Hutterian Brethren
The history kept by the Hutterian Brethren of Moravia. It tells from inside the movement how the first adult baptism took place among Zwingli’s former followers at Zurich.
According to the library record of the edition, the chronicle was begun by Kaspar Braitmichel, who carried it to 1542, and others continued it to 1665. It opens with the history of the church and then tells how the brotherhood began in Switzerland: how Conrad Grebel, Felix Manz and Huldrych Zwingli discussed baptism, how the priest George Blaurock joined them, and how Blaurock asked Grebel to baptise him.
It was written later and far from Zurich, by a community that honoured these men as its founders, and it gives no day for the baptism. How the story reached the chronicler is not known. For the same weeks the Records of the Zurich Council on the Reformation, 1519–1533 give the authorities’ side.
