Angelus Address of 31 October 1999
Pope John Paul II31 October 1999
The pope’s words at the Sunday Angelus in Rome on the day the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification was confirmed, spoken, as he says, while the signing was taking place in Augsburg.
John Paul II spoke at midday in Rome while the representatives of the Catholic Church and the Lutheran World Federation were signing at Augsburg. The address fixes the place and the day from the Catholic side, calls the event a “milestone” and at the same time an “intermediate goal”, and speaks of remaining problems still to be addressed. See Lutherans and Catholics Agree on Justification.
