The apostolic constitution of Christmas Day 1961 by which Pope John XXIII formally summoned the Second Vatican Council to meet in St Peter’s in 1962.

In section 13 the pope recalls that he first announced his intention to hold a council on 25 January 1959, and describes the preparation that followed. In section 18 he announces and convokes the council for the coming year 1962, to be held in the Vatican basilica on days still to be fixed. The document is dated at St Peter’s, 25 December 1961, in the fourth year of his pontificate.
