A life of Henry Venn, honorary secretary of the Church Missionary Society, by a former secretary of the Society, with an appendix of his official papers, among them the minute of 1851 on native churches.
The memoir appeared after Henry Venn’s death; the edition used is that of 1882. Its value here lies in the documents it prints. Appendix C gives the papers he issued for the Society on “The Native Pastorate and Organisation of Native Churches”, the first of them dated 1851, in which the aim of a mission is said to be a native church under native pastors on a self-supporting system.
