Resolution 15 names complete abstinence as “the primary and obvious method” of limiting or avoiding parenthood. It then agrees that, where there is a clearly felt moral obligation to do so and a morally sound reason for avoiding complete abstinence, other methods may be used in the light of the same Christian principles, and it records the conference’s strong condemnation of any method of conception control used from motives of selfishness, luxury or mere convenience. The text gives the vote: 193 for, 67 against.
Like all Lambeth resolutions it expresses the mind of the bishops present and binds no member church. See Humanae Vitae.
