Resolution 34 says that the theological arguments then offered for and against the ordination of women to the priesthood are inconclusive. Resolution 35 asks every national and regional church to study the question and report, and Resolution 37 asks that a church seek the advice of the Anglican Consultative Council before it makes a final decision to ordain women. Resolution 22, “Responsible Parenthood”, takes note of the encyclical Humanae vitae, records the conference’s appreciation of the pope’s concern for marriage, and says that it is unable to agree that all methods of conception control other than abstinence or the use of infertile periods are contrary to the order established by God. It reaffirms Resolutions 112, 113 and 115 of the conference of 1958 and prints them in full.
Like all Lambeth resolutions they are the opinion of the bishops present and bind no member church. See the First Woman Is Ordained an Anglican Priest and Humanae Vitae.
