Liudprand was bishop of Cremona and in Otto’s service. He was present at the Roman synod of 963 and tells us that he delivered the emperor’s speech to the Romans in Latin, since they could not follow Otto’s Saxon (ch. 11). His account is that of an eyewitness and an advocate. He lists those present and quotes letters and speeches at length, and he repeats every charge made against John XII without reserve.

He gives the coronation of 962 three sentences and no date. The work breaks off in 964.
