The programme has eighteen items. The invocation is assigned to Patrick O’Boyle, Catholic archbishop of Washington; remarks to Eugene Carson Blake, stated clerk of the United Presbyterian Church and vice chairman of the Commission on Race Relations of the National Council of Churches; a prayer to Rabbi Uri Miller of the Synagogue Council of America; remarks to Matthew Ahmann of the National Catholic Conference for Interracial Justice and to Rabbi Joachim Prinz of the American Jewish Congress; and the benediction to Benjamin E. Mays, president of Morehouse College. Item 16 is “Remarks” by Martin Luther King Jr as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference: the speech now known by its refrain, “I have a dream”.

It is a programme of who was to take part, and not a report of what was said. See the Churches and the Civil Rights Movement.
