Omnium plasmatoris Domini (crusade bull against the Hussites)
The bull in which Pope Martin V, at the request of King Sigismund, ordered a crusade to be preached throughout Christendom against the Wycliffites and Hussites and granted the crusaders a full indulgence.
The bull is addressed to all patriarchs, archbishops, bishops and prelates and is dated at Florence on the kalends of March in the third year of Martin V, 1 March 1420. It praises Sigismund, king of the Romans, for his purpose of removing the Wycliffites, Hussites and other heretics from the lands of the faithful unless they repent, and says that he has asked for the church’s help.
The pope exhorts all rulers and communities to arm for the extermination of these heretics and their supporters, and orders the prelates, whenever the king raises an army against them, to preach the cross and fix it on the shoulders of those who take it. Those who serve in person and at their own cost, or die on the way, receive full pardon of the sins they have confessed; so do those who pay for soldiers or serve at another’s cost. Hearers of the preaching receive a hundred days’ indulgence. See the Hussites and the Compacts of Basel.
