First Letter to Peter of Antioch

The patriarch of Constantinople’s own account of the affair of 1054, sent to his colleague at Antioch, with a list of Latin errors and the claim that the pope had long been absent from the diptychs.

Michael Cerularius wrote to win the other eastern patriarchs to his view. He repeats that the legates were impostors, lists the faults of the Latins, and rebukes Peter for a rumour that Antioch, Alexandria and Jerusalem still named the pope in the liturgy. Constantinople, he says, has not done so since the sixth council (chapter 9), a statement that Letter to Michael Cerularius corrects.
