Evidence from Scripture and History of the Second Coming of Christ, about the Year 1843
The course of lectures in which William Miller set out his reckoning that the 2300 days of Daniel 8 would end, and Christ return, about 1843. First printed at Troy, New York, in 1836 and reprinted in later years.
The title page reads “Evidence from Scripture and History of the Second Coming of Christ, about the year 1843: exhibited in a course of lectures”, with the imprint Troy, 1836. The third lecture takes Daniel 8:13–14 as its text. It argues that the 2300 days are years, that they begin with the decree to rebuild Jerusalem, which it puts 457 years before Christ, and that they therefore end in 1843.
The book is William Miller’s argument in the form in which his hearers met it, eight years before the date passed. See the Millerites and the Great Disappointment.
