The Reunion of the Church: A Defence of the South India Scheme
Lesslie Newbigin1948
A defence of the South Indian union by one of its first bishops, written before the inauguration and given its foreword weeks after it. The title page names the author’s new diocese and his earlier service as a Church of Scotland missionary.
Lesslie Newbigin wrote the book, he says, in the last months of a furlough, and dated its foreword from Madura in November 1947. It answers critics of the scheme and argues the theology of the church’s unity and continuity, of the ministry and of the sacraments. It is the work of a participant arguing a case, and is cited here for his own account of himself and of what he believed had happened. See the Church of South India Unites Four Traditions.
