The tablet was found at Nimrud, ancient Kalhu, and preserves about half of a long summary of the king’s reign written for his palace there in or soon after 729 BC. It arranges his wars by region. The part that dealt with his wars in the west is lost, but the list of western rulers who paid him tribute survives on the reverse (lines 6′–13′).

Among the kings of Ammon, Moab, Ashkelon, Edom and Gaza, line 11′ names Jehoahaz of Judah. Jehoahaz is the full form of the name Ahaz. The entry agrees with the statement of Kings that Ahaz sent silver and gold to Tiglath-pileser and declared himself his servant (2 Kings 16:7–8).
