Gustavo Gutiérrez Merino, O.P., Collection: Finding Aid
The description of the papers and recorded lectures of Gustavo Gutiérrez held by the University of Notre Dame, where he taught. Its biographical note gives the dates and places of his birth, ordination and death and the posts he held.
The collection consists mainly of recordings and transcripts of the lectures Gutiérrez gave each year in Lima from 1971 to 2020. The biographical note says that he was born in Lima on 8 June 1928, was ordained priest in 1959, joined the Dominican order in 2001, taught at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and later held a chair of theology at Notre Dame, was closely involved in the second general conference of the Latin American bishops in 1968, founded the Instituto Bartolomé de las Casas in Lima in 1974, published Teología de la liberación: Perspectivas in 1971, and died in Lima on 22 October 2024.
