The grand jury examined the dioceses of Allentown, Erie, Greensburg, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh and Scranton, that is, every Pennsylvania diocese except the two that earlier grand juries had covered. Its introduction says that it heard dozens of witnesses and reviewed half a million pages of diocesan documents. The body of the report takes each diocese in turn, and an appendix lists the accused by name.
A grand jury report is an accusation and not a verdict. The jurors say that almost every case they found was too old to prosecute, and that they had issued presentments against two priests. The published file is marked as redacted by order of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court of 27 July 2018. The introduction is written in the jurors’ own, deliberately plain and angry, voice; this wiki reports its counts and its description of the dioceses’ practice as the grand jury’s findings.
