The society printed these accounts in numbers for its subscribers. The opening narrative was written by its officers within a few years of the events and gives the resolutions of 2 October 1792 with the names of those who subscribed. Later numbers print extracts from the journals and letters of Carey and his colleague Thomas, abridged by the editors, as they themselves say.

It is the society’s account of itself, published to win support. It is cited in William Carey and the Modern Missionary Movement for dates and resolutions, which it records as a minute-book would.
