In this bull Pius II calls the practice of appealing from a pope’s judgment to a future council an “execrable” abuse, on the ground that the pope is the vicar of Christ to whom the care of the flock was given in the person of Peter, and he forbids it.

The bull does not name the decree Haec sancta, but it rejects the conclusion drawn from it, that a council stands above a pope. See the Council of Constance and the Burning of Jan Hus.
