The encyclical of Pius XI on atheistic communism, dated 19 March 1937, five days after his letter to the German bishops.
The letter is addressed to the bishops of the whole Catholic Church. It describes the doctrine of communism and its effects in Russia, Mexico and Spain, sets against it the church’s teaching on society, and forbids Catholics to collaborate with it. It is cited in Mit brennender Sorge: Pius XI on the Church in the German Reich to show what else the pope published in the same week.
