The statement answers the communiqué of 11 October 2018 point by point. It recalls that Filaret Denisenko was removed from the see of Kyiv in 1992, deposed by the Russian church’s council of bishops that June and anathematised in 1997; argues that the act of 1686 placed the metropolis of Kyiv within the Moscow Patriarchate without any condition that it was temporary; and denies that the patriarch of Constantinople has a right to hear appeals from other churches.

It is the Moscow Patriarchate’s own statement of its case and of the measure it took, the breaking of communion with Constantinople. See Constantinople Grants Autocephaly to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
