Tutu begins with an emergency meeting of the South African Council of Churches and with two deaths in the unrest of that year, a black child shot by police and a white baby killed by stone-throwers. He goes on to forced removals, migrant labour, education, the pass and security laws, and the history of peaceful protest, and then widens the argument to other countries.

It is his own account, given abroad while he was a leader of the churches’ opposition. See the Churches and Apartheid.
