The communion’s site says that the statement was drafted by a small group of theologians in consultation with the member churches and signed at Wittenberg during the General Council of 2017. Paragraphs 1 and 2 accept the invitation to associate and affirm doctrinal agreement with the common statements of the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification; paragraphs 12 to 20 add what the text calls particular Reformed emphases, among them the continuing use of the law in the Christian life and the relation of justification to justice. It closes with an Official Common Affirmation by the Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist and Reformed parties. See Lutherans and Catholics Agree on Justification.
