The Westminster Shorter Catechism
Westminster Assembly of Divines1647
A catechism in 107 questions and answers prepared by the Westminster Assembly in 1647. It opens with the question of the chief end of man.
Schaff’s note says that the catechism was prepared by the Assembly in 1647 and adopted by the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1648. It begins with the end for which man is made, then treats what Scripture teaches about God and his decrees, creation, sin, Christ and redemption, and after that the duty God requires, set out through the Ten Commandments, faith and repentance, the sacraments and the Lord’s Prayer.
It is cited in the Westminster Confession for its first question and answer.
