Johannesburg
City in South Africa. The Kairos Document of 1985 is dated from here, and Desmond Tutu was dean of its Anglican cathedral and later its bishop.
The preface of the Kairos Document is dated from Johannesburg on 25 September 1985 and says that the group which wrote it first met in Soweto at the beginning of July (Kairos Document (1985), preface). The Nobel Foundation’s record says that Desmond Tutu became dean of St Mary’s Cathedral in Johannesburg in 1975 and describes him in 1984 as bishop of Johannesburg (Nobel Prize, Desmond Tutu, facts and biographical note).
