Lausanne
City on the north shore of Lake Geneva in French-speaking Switzerland. The International Congress on World Evangelization met here in July 1974 and gave its name to the Lausanne Covenant.
Lausanne stands on the north shore of Lake Geneva. From 16 to 25 July 1974 it was the meeting place of the International Congress on World Evangelization, attended by 2,700 participants from more than 150 nations (Stott, The Lausanne Covenant: An Exposition and Commentary, Introduction, A). In July 1974 some 2,700 evangelical Christians from more than 150 nations meet at Lausanne. Their covenant, drafted under John Stott, commits them to world evangelization and affirms that evangelism and social responsibility are both Christian duties.
