Lund
Cathedral city in southern Sweden. The Lutheran World Federation held its first assembly here in 1947, and in 2016 Catholics and Lutherans opened the five-hundredth anniversary of the Reformation with a common prayer in its cathedral.
Lund lies in southern Sweden, next to the city of Malmö (Lutheran World Federation, report of the Lund commemoration (1 November 2016) second report, 3 November 2016). The Lutheran World Federation held its first assembly here from 30 June to 6 July 1947 and chose Anders Nygren of Lund as its first president (Lutheran World Federation, History of the LWF). On 31 October 2016 Pope Francis and the federation’s leaders prayed together in the cathedral of Lund at the opening of the year that marked five hundred years since the Reformation (Joint Statement at Lund (2016) ‘With thankful hearts’); see Catholics and Lutherans Mark 500 Years of the Reformation Together.
