Old Kraków Annals

manuscript of AD 1122

A short list of dated entries from 948 to the early twelfth century, kept in Poland. It records the coming of Dubrovka to Mieszko and the duke’s baptism, a year later than the annals of the Kraków chapter do.

The editors’ preface says that the annals stand in a manuscript once belonging to the church of the Holy Cross on Łysa Góra, and that the manuscript was written in 1122. Most of the early entries are taken from German annals; a few concern Poland. Among these are “966. Dubrovka came to Mieszko” and “967. Duke Mieszko is baptized”.

The same preface warns that in this manuscript the year numbers from 948 to 1000 are one higher than those of Annals of the Kraków Chapter, and that it is not clear whether the difference is the scribe’s mistake or goes back to the exemplar.
