Joachim Vadian of St Gallen was a friend to whom Huldrych Zwingli wrote frankly. On 7 March 1526 he told him of the council’s decision that day to imprison the leaders of the rebaptisers and to punish further rebaptism by drowning. On 20 October 1529, just home from Marburg, he gave his account of the meetings with Martin Luther.
The letters are private and partisan. The second claims a clear victory, as the Lutheran reports do for their side, and asks Vadian to show it only to those he can trust.
