Callixtus II
Pope who made peace with the emperor Henry V in the Concordat of Worms in 1122 and held the First Lateran Council the following year.
Callixtus acted at Worms through legates. Ekkehard of Aura says that he sent the bishop of Ostia, with full powers, and two cardinals to Germany to reconcile kingdom and priesthood, and calls him a kinsman of the emperor (Ekkehard of Aura, Chronicle 1122 (pp. 259–260)). The privilege issued in his name grants Henry V (emperor) a place at the election of German bishops and abbots and the right to confer their regalia by the sceptre (Concordat of Worms privilege of the pope). The canons of his Lateran council of 1123 forbid simony, the consecration of bishops not canonically elected, and lay disposal of church property (First Lateran Council, canons 1, 3, 8).
