Palestinian Lutheran bishop. As president of the Lutheran World Federation he signed, with Pope Francis, the joint statement at the common commemoration of the Reformation in Lund Cathedral on 31 October 2016.

The Lutheran World Federation’s list of its presidents gives Munib Younan’s country of origin as Palestine, his date of birth as 18 September 1950 and his term as 2010 to 2017 (Lutheran World Federation, History of the LWF list of presidents). He was bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land (Lutheran World Federation, report of the Lund commemoration (1 November 2016)).

At the common prayer in the cathedral of Lund on 31 October 2016 he spoke the words of welcome, saying that what unites Catholics and Lutherans is far greater than what divides them, and signed the joint statement with Francis (Lutheran World Federation, report of the Lund commemoration (1 November 2016)); see Catholics and Lutherans Mark 500 Years of the Reformation Together.
