Town in Northamptonshire where Baptist ministers formed the Particular Baptist Society for Propagating the Gospel amongst the Heathen on 2 October 1792.

The ministers’ meeting held at Kettering on 2 October 1792 resolved to form a missionary society and chose Andrew Fuller as its secretary (Periodical Accounts of the Baptist Missionary Society, vol. 1, pp. 3–4). A meeting here on 10 January 1793 agreed to send Thomas and William Carey to the East Indies (Periodical Accounts of the Baptist Missionary Society, vol. 1, p. 94).     The English Baptist minister William Carey argues in 1792 that Christ’s command to teach all nations still binds the churches. A missionary society is formed at Kettering that October, and in 1793 Carey sails for India. In 1805 the Serampore mission sets down its principles.
